The City Government of Isabela under the administration of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), successfully conducted the “Empowering Solo: Orientation for Stronger Solo Parents” program on April 28, held at the West Terminal in Barangay Aguada. The event aimed to strengthen support systems and promote the rights of solo parents within the community.
CSWDO Head Nor-Aina Asmara welcomed participants with a message emphasizing the importance of recognizing the unique challenges and contributions of solo parents. Meanwhile, Sangguniang Panlungsod Member and Committee Chair on Women, Children, and Family Affairs, Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul, delivered an inspirational message reaffirming the city’s legislative commitment to upholding solo parents’ rights and welfare.
The main orientation featured a discussion led by Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission Provincial Director, Atty. Alman-Najar Namla. Topics covered included legal remedies available to solo parents, the distinctions between legal separation, annulment, and abandonment, as well as barangay justice mechanisms and mediation options to address family-related concerns.
Following the orientation, participants enjoyed a breakout session that offered free haircut, manicure, and pedicure services, adding a wellness component to the day’s activities. (Words by SJ Asakil, CIO/Photos by K. Galano, IsaTV)
