The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) IX, led by OIC Regional Director Jorry Padayogdog, conducted its first cash gift distribution under the Expanded Centenarians Act for beneficiaries from Isabela City on February 26 at the Senior Citizens Lounge Center in Barangay Tabuk. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, along with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) headed by Nor-Aina Asmara and the Office of the Senior Citizen Association, led by Ret COL Remegio Delos Reyes.
Under Republic Act No. 11982, a total of P230,000 was distributed to 13 senior citizens from various barangays during the inaugural cash gift distribution. Furthermore, 12 octogenarians received a P10,000 cash gift, while one centenarian (100 years old and above) received P100,000. This amendment expands the benefits previously limited to centenarians, ensuring that elderly Filipinos receive recognition and financial support at multiple stages in their later years.
OIC Padayogdog expressed gratitude to the local government unit and CSWDO for their support in making the event possible. Meanwhile, NCSC OIC Chair Dr. Mary Jean Loreche shared a message through an audio-visual presentation. Representing Mayor Turabin-Hataman, City Administrator Pedrito Eisma emphasized the significance of the expanded law, recognizing senior citizens as valuable members of their families and communities.
Beyond the cash distribution, the event also provided senior citizens with essential information sessions. Department of Health – Zamboanga Peninsula Center for Health Development representative Aubrey San Luis conducted an orientation on mental health and dementia care, while PhilHealth representative Sherlyn Enriquez discussed the services and benefits of having a PhilHealth ID.
Also present at the event were PDO III Adnan Ahmad, Ralph Alquizola, and Rica Jane Natividad, PDO II Sarah Alaja, and PDO I Walter Abayon. Representatives from the City Health Office, including CSWDO Center Head Renwick Estrada and personnel, as well as members of the Federation of Senior Citizens Association Presidents, also attended, further reinforcing the collective commitment to supporting the welfare of senior citizens.
