As part of the National Women’s Month Celebration, 150 Indigenous People (IP) women received five kilograms of rice each and availed themselves of various free services such as haircuts, manicures, and pedicures. This initiative was conducted under the “Alagang DAmang DAHma” program and dubbed as Pampering Session for IP Women, spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by CSWDO Nor-Aina Asmara.
The event, held on February 26, at Malamawi National High School in Barangay Sta. Barbara, aimed to recognize and uplift women, particularly those from marginalized communities, by providing them with essential support and self-care services. Funded under GAD, the local government unit led by Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality, empowering women, and ensuring their well-being through this initiative.
Aside from the distribution of rice and pampering services, the event also featured informative sessions led by experts from different agencies. CPMDO/CNAO Jesielyn Puno conducted an orientation on responsible parenthood, while social worker Ileen Grace Guerrero discussed child labor laws. ICPS WCPD PSSG Zarnah Abuharis provided an orientation on Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act) and Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act).
CSWDO Asmara gave the welcome remarks, and Isabela City Indigenous People Mandatory Representative Mary May Julhari concluded the event with her closing remarks. (Words by SJ Asakil, CIO/Photos by KJ Evardo, IsaTV)
