The Local Council for Women (LCW) of the City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, held its first quarter meeting to discuss key initiatives and plans for the year. The meeting, presided over by LCW President Sheila Pagarigan, focused on preparations for the 2025 National Women’s Month celebration and the proposed activities for the council. These discussions were guided by SP Committee on Women, Children and Family Affairs and Committee on Gender and Development both chaired by Councilor Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul and City Information Officer and concurrent GAD Focal Person, Mendry Ann Lim.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the expansion of LCW’s membership. Previously composed of 15 members, the council has grown to 38 members, reflecting its strengthened commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and promoting gender-responsive governance in Isabela City.
The council also reviewed and updated the LCW Calendar of Activities for 2025, ensuring a well-structured plan to address the needs of women in the city. Special emphasis was placed on preparations for the National Women’s Month celebration, with members proposing initiatives aimed at fostering gender equality and promoting women’s rights.
Additionally, the meeting tackled the Nine Independent and Dynamic Awards, focusing on the review of the criteria and nomination process. To encourage broader participation, the nomination period was extended until March 15, 2025.
The council reaffirmed its dedication to implementing gender-responsive programs and livelihood initiatives in collaboration with other offices, aligning with Gender and Development (GAD) principles. With these initiatives, the Local Council for Women continues to position Isabela City as a leader in empowering and uplifting women through progressive policies and programs. (Words by Y.
