The Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System of the City Government of Isabela, headed by Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, held its 1st Quarter Meeting on February 17, laying the groundwork for a year of progressive initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
City Councilor Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul led discussions on the reconstitution of the GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) to ensure alignment with current policies. Meanwhile, GAD Focal Person Mendry Ann Lim presented the 2024 GAD Accomplishment Report and the GAD Plan and Budget for 2025, highlighting inclusive and sustainable programs.
Merewyn Sadjail from the City Planning and Development Office and the GAD Unit outlined the city’s GAD agenda, emphasizing strategic priorities. The meeting also covered the 2025 calendar of activities, including preparations for Women’s Month Celebration and other gender-responsive initiatives.
As part of the Women’s Month celebration, the committee presented a series of activities aimed at empowering women, promoting gender equality, and recognizing women’s contributions to the community. These activities will include forums, skills training, advocacy campaigns, and community engagement programs.
Additionally, the meeting announced the call for nominations for the Nine Independent and Dynamic Advocates (NIDA) Awards, which recognize outstanding women leaders and advocates who have made significant contributions to gender development and empowerment in the city. And the submission of entry extend until March 15.
