To promote inclusive education and awareness for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman joined the Isabela Central Elementary Pilot School – Special Needs Education Program in observing the 29th National Autism Consciousness Week on January 30.
The program officially commenced with a welcome message from School Principal Josiah Tuballa, who emphasized that all children, regardless of their abilities or circumstances, deserve the right interventions and support in their learning journey. He assured the participants that every learner is valued and capable of growth with proper guidance.
Assistant School Principal Melba Ramirez further underscored the significance of the event, explaining that through various activities, the program sought to educate the public on the importance of inclusivity and understanding for individuals with special needs.
Mayor Turabin-Hataman graced the event and reaffirmed her administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing special needs learners. She emphasized that since the beginning of her leadership, ensuring the welfare and inclusion of these children has always been a top priority. “Hindi ibig sabihin, they are less than any other children. Mayroon silang kakaibang pangangailangan na kapag ito ay natugunan natin, ay pwede rin silang maging productive citizens of our country,” she stated, reinforcing the city’s dedication to empowering learners with special needs.
Meanwhile, CPDAO Gemma Paculio delivered a message on behalf of CSWDO Nor-Aina Asmara, highlighting the government’s responsibility to ensure that children with special needs are integrated into public services. She emphasized that inclusivity should not be an option but a commitment that every sector must uphold.
PWD-Provincial Focal Person Rashida Taradji, representing PSWO-Basilan Anwary Akalun, expressed gratitude and support for fostering inclusivity and promoting care for the environment.
Also present were West District Supervisor Dr. Fadher Ismael, SPED teachers, Doña Ramona Punong Barangay Lilibeth Fojas, and parents, all showing their support for the initiative. (Words by E. Banding-Hadjala, IsaTV/Photos by M. Santos, CIO)
