Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman graced the 3rd White Coat Ceremony as the guest speaker, organized by the Basilan State College’s College of Allied Health, BS Nutrition and Dietetics Department (BSND), on September 25.
The ceremony opened with heartfelt remarks, setting a tone of pride and anticipation for the occasion. Following this, Vice President for Academic Affairs Shiela Alonzo took the stage to proudly present the 99 candidates for the White Coat, who were then officially accepted into their respective programs by College President Haipa Abdurahim-Salain.
In her message, Dr. Abdurahim-Salain acknowledged the dedication and commitment of the students to the fields of nutrition and healthcare. She expressed her confidence in their potential to make meaningful contributions to the community, highlighting the vital role they will play in promoting health and wellness. Salain emphasized the importance of their education and training, urging the candidates to embrace their responsibilities as future nutritionists and healthcare professionals.
During her speech, Mayor Turabin-Hataman emphasized the critical role of nutrition in promoting human health and its profound impact on disease prevention and overall well-being. She highlighted the significant contributions of Isabela City’s feeding programs, which resulted in a notable reduction in stunting and underweight levels from 2020 to 2023. The mayor encouraged the future nutritionists and dietitians to serve with compassion and humanity, stressing the importance of their profession in addressing the nutritional needs of the population.
The mayor also urged the students to embrace innovation and apply critical thinking in tackling the evolving health challenges of today’s world. She reminded them of their vital role as agents of change and champions of public health. Mayor Turabin-Hataman extended her gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support and encouraged the students to stay focused on their purpose as they embark on their professional journey.
The ceremony concluded with the official White Coat Ceremony and the Pledge of Affiliate, led by Program Coordinator Sitti Arna Jagoh. BSND Faculty member Nizzah Garingan delivered the closing remarks, capping off a memorable event that celebrated the students’ entry into the field of nutrition and dietetics.
