The Isabela Barangay Lady Legislators Association (IBLLA) held its General Assembly, July 29, highlighted by a comprehensive Good Governance (GoGo) and Gender Sensitivity Orientation.
The Gender Sensitivity Orientation, led by the Gender and Development (GAD) Unit under GAD Focal and concurrent City Information Officer Mendry-Ann Lim, focused on promoting gender equality. GAD Unit associates Rhonaleen Natividad-Sarael and Jannica Quicho-Taghap led the orientation for approximately 100 IBLLA members.
Councilor Karel Annjaiza Sakkalahul opened the event by acknowledging the contributions of outgoing president Sheila Pagarigan. This was followed by Nilda Delos Reyes, Basilan Info-Center Manager of Philippine Information Agency, who emphasized on the importance of well-informed citizens in promoting good governance. Additionally, Dr. Diana Therese Veloso from De La Salle University-Manila, a special guest of Mayor Hataman, emphasized the importance of advocating for women’s rights and valuing women’s contributions.
A major highlight was the address by Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman where she emphasized that the GoGo initiative aims to enhance transparency and stressed the importance of public awareness regarding local government budgets and roles. Mayor Turabin-Hataman asserted that these practices strengthen accountability and community trust.
Reflecting on Isabela City’s progress, Mayor Turabin-Hataman listened to participants who shared their observations on the city’s transformative journey—from past challenges like severe flooding to current improvements in cleanliness and organization. Her remarks resonated with attendees, who appreciated the positive changes in their community. (Words by R. Natividad-Sarael,CIO/Photos by KJ Evardo, IsaTV)
