Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman met Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines, HE Dato Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino Bin Anthony on June 27. The gathering, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring collaborative opportunities, was also attended by Deputy Minority Leader and Basilan Lone District Representative Mujiv Hataman, Dr. Mario Obra of Western Mindanao State University, Niño Duque of the Malaysian Digital Economic Corporation, Isabela City Councilor Bimbbo Epping, City Cooperative Officer Ahmad Tiplani and various local government unit officials.
The meeting centered on possible collaborations on education, Islamic finance, digitalization, trade and tourism, some of which were initially discussed with International Council of Islamic Finance Educators Project Director Dr. Zulkifly Baharom who recently visited the city.
Ambassador Castelino reciprocated the warm welcome and praised Isabela City for its efforts in fostering peace and development. He emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote regional stability and economic growth. The ambassador also expressed interest in exploring partnerships that could benefit both Isabela City and Malaysian stakeholders.
Representative Hataman shared insights on the importance of regional cooperation. He underscored the need for collaborative efforts in addressing common challenges and leveraging shared opportunities. His presence reinforced the significance of the meeting in enhancing government to government bilateral ties.
